Hi, everybody - I'm your friendly website host Kevin Coffey and Cartoonland, founded in 1984, is my business. Cartoonland is a service - based company that works with it's clients to provide custom made, high quality hand drawn cartoon animation for CD-ROMs, television commercials, music videos, industrials and theatrically released motion pictures. As a successful freelance producer, director and animator I am in the unique position of knowing and having access to top talent which I hire, as needed, to meet the specific demands of each job. This helps keep my overhead low and my quality high, resulting in substantial savings to you, the client!
I made my first animated cartoon at age 10- my dad came home one day with a new 8mm movie camera that featured a true single- frame exposure button labeled "animation" - my fate was sealed at an early age!

Since that fateful day I have always had an animated cartoon in the works! At age 15 two friends and myself won an honorable mention in the national "Kodak Teenage Movie Awards" contest for my first cel animated cartoon. 2 years later I did my first professional animated sequence for an underground live- action feature that starred a young Bette Midler in her first big screen appearance. I moved to San Francisco at age 19 and since then have had a long and successful career as a freelance animator and animation producer.

Through my company Cartoonland I have produced and directed animation for several of the most exclusive and demanding franchises of all time:

  • 72 fully animated battle sequences featuring George Lucas's beloved Star Wars characters were produced for the Software Toolworks Star Wars Chess Game CD- ROM
  • Gary Trudeau chose Cartoonland to animate his famous Doonesbury characters for the Mindscape CD- ROM titles " Flashbacks- A Doonesbury Anthology " and " The Doonsbury Election Game".
  • Cartoonland produced and directed full character animation for the Mindscape CD- ROM interactive storybook " Tales of Jemima Puddleduck " by Beatrix Potter, world famous author of the beloved Peter Rabbit children's books- consistant best sellers for the past 80 years.

I work with clients large and small with budgets ranging from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of dollars. I keep my studio overhead very low and only hire employees on a freelance basis as needed. The advent of digital technology results in even further savings in the processing and rendering of your animation.

Through first hand experience I know how animation studios work.
